Program FAQ
Horsemanship: the skills, knowledge, and understanding needed to form a harmonious relationship with a horse
Why horses?
Horses are uniquely sensitive, intuitive animals who respond to our energy, body language, and emotions. Because of this, they offer honest, immediate feedback that helps us build self-awareness, confidence, and communication skills. Their calming presence also supports mindfulness, stress relief, and emotional regulation. By partnering with horses—whether through hands-on care, observation, or guided activities—participants gain powerful opportunities for learning, growth, and healing that go far beyond what’s possible in a traditional classroom or office.

Who should participate in Stable Strides programs?
Our programs are designed for anyone seeking connection, growth, and balance. From children building literacy and confidence, to teens exploring horsemanship, to adults looking for stress relief, mindfulness, or new skills, our offerings are inclusive and adaptable. Whether you are new to horses or experienced, our goal is to make the healing, educational, and empowering potential of horses accessible to all—supporting personal growth, peace, and community connection.
What should participants wear to the stables?
Sturdy, closed toed shoes (preferably boots) are the best footwear option. We also recommend wearing clothes that can get dirty. If you have a ASTM/SEI approved helmet, feel free to bring it, but helmets are NOT required.
What equipment do we need to purchase?
NONE! Other than proper footwear (see above), we will provide sterilized helmets when needed and all other equipment and supplies. If you have an ASTM/SEI approved helmet, feel free to bring it for their personal use.
Do programs include riding?
Unless a program is specifically described as a “riding” program, it is ground-based. That means participants work hands-on with the horses through activities like grooming, leading, and other interactive exercises. Ground-based programs help participants build skills connection with the horses that are foundational and supplemental for any mounted riding activities.
If you are specifically interested in. mounted riding lessons, contact us and we can refer you to a local program that meets your goals.
How do we get to the stables?
Stable Strides operates at multiple local stables. Please refer to the registration for your specifical program for the specific stable address and directions. Contact us if you have any questions!
Is there financial aid?
Yes, create accessible to equine activities is core to our mission. One way we accomplish this is by providing need- based financial assistance through sliding scale fees and financial aid. Contact us or fill out our financial aid application to receive more information.
We also offer scholarships for more advanced horse people seeking support in pursuing their goals. Please visit our program page for more information on Stable Strides Scholarships.
