The Attention Liberation Movement & How Horses Guide Us Into Presence and Connection

A personal discovery, a cultural movement, and why attention may be the most important resource of our time

Through a thoughtful conversation over coffee today, a book recommendation came up. As luck would have it, Charter Books was right next to the café. I wandered in, searching for that title—but instead, I stumbled upon a striking red-covered book: Attensity!: A Manifesto of the Attention Liberation Movement.

As I flipped through its pages, it felt like serendipity. I don’t think finding this book was a coincidence. It revealed something I didn’t even realize I had been searching for—and it compelled me to write this and share it.

What Is the Attention Liberation Movement—and Why It Matters

Attensity! explores a powerful idea: that our attention is no longer fully our own.

In today’s world, our focus is constantly pulled—by technology, media, and systems designed to capture and hold it. The book introduces the concept of “human fracking,” describing how our attention is extracted, segmented, and commodified.

This fragmentation separates us:

From ourselves.

From one another.

From our ability to think clearly and feel deeply.

And over time, it erodes something essential—our humanity.

The Attention Liberation Movement is a call to reclaim that.

To bring awareness back to where our attention goes.

To take ownership of it.

To choose presence over distraction.

Because our ability to connect, reflect, and act with intention depends on it.

"What we attend to is what we become."

How Horses Help Us Reclaim Our Attention

As I read, I couldn’t help but recognize something familiar.

At Stable Strides, this is exactly what we create.

When someone steps into the presence of a horse, everything changes. There is no multitasking. No scrolling. No divided attention.

Horses respond to what is real, immediate, and embodied. They invite us—quietly but powerfully—into the present moment.

And in that space, something begins to restore itself.

People reconnect:

  • with their breath

  • with their body

  • with their emotions

  • with the being in front of them

These are not just moments of calm. They are moments of reclaimed attention—and with it, a return to wholeness.

If you’re curious to explore more about how this works, we share more in The Science and Heart of Equine-Facilitated Learning: How Horses Help Us Grow

Why This Matters for Humanity—and How to Join Us

In a world where our attention is a battleground, reclaiming it is not just helpful—it is essential.

It is how we:

  • think clearly

  • relate meaningfully

  • live intentionally

It is how we stay human.

This discovery felt like a missing piece—one that deepens the why behind our work. What we offer at Stable Strides is not just connection with horses.

It is an invitation to return:

  • to yourself

  • to nature

  • to one another

As you reflect on where your attention lives, we invite you to reconnect.

Let’s reclaim our attention—and rediscover the power of connection to nature, to self, and to each other—in quiet and presence.
